ContextLayer Privacy Policy

Your personal knowledge layer for the web
Last updated: 2 June 2026  •  Version 0.1.0

ContextLayer ("the extension", "we") is a browser extension that lets you highlight text on webpages, save pages to read later, and search everything you have saved. This policy explains exactly what data the extension handles and where it goes.

The short version: Your highlights, saved pages, and snapshots stay on your own device. The only thing ever sent to us is what you voluntarily type into the Feedback form. We do not track your browsing, sell data, or show ads.

1. Data stored on your device

The following are stored locally in your browser (using IndexedDB) and are never transmitted to us or any third party:

This data remains under your control. If you uninstall the extension, your browser deletes this data.

2. Data sent off your device

Feedback form (the only outbound data)

If you choose to submit feedback through the extension's Feedback page, the following information is sent to our database provider (Supabase) so we can read and act on your feedback:

This data is sent only when you actively click "Send Feedback". If you never use the Feedback form, nothing leaves your device.

3. Permissions and why we need them

4. What we do NOT do

5. Data retention and deletion

Data on your device is deleted when you uninstall the extension or clear it manually. Feedback you submit is retained in our database for as long as needed to address it. To request deletion of feedback you have submitted, contact us at the email below.

6. Children

ContextLayer is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

7. Changes to this policy

If we change how data is handled, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
